Everyone daydreams occasionally, but maybe not as much as James Thurber’s famous short-story character Walter Mitty! Walter daydreamed excessively about doing heroic deeds. “Sunday in the Shade” paints an image of a man’s daydreams about love, success and being respected as he escapes the harsher realities of his life. This imagery is wrapped in a warm, mellow, lazy melody that Doc daydreamed back in the 1990s. A quarter of a century later, again in Colorado, Doc wrote lyrics for the song while lying in a hammock in the shade of his Colorado summer home on a lazy Sunday afternoon. A few years later, he and Meryl modified the words a bit to fit their FRESH APPLES performance style.
