This 1932 classic was originally written for a Yiddish operetta with the title of "Bei Mir Bistu Shein," but the 1937 English version by The Andrews Sisters paved the way for recordings by Ella Fitzgerald and a great many others, and the song became an international phenomenon. Oddly, it was written for a male vocalist, but most recordings of it (including ours) feature a female lead vocalist. Most renditions are at a fast, jazzy pace, but we liked the less recorded slow and sultry version. We added a klezmer-style violin solo and a quick-paced chorus in the middle, and finished with a slow, sexy ending. We hope you enjoy our version of Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen!
